New study finds genes could be associated with PTSD

A terrifying event in Armenia may end up helping troops suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. The Los Angeles Times reports that UCLA is studying victims of a magnitude 6.8 earthquake that shook more than 40 percent of the country and killed an estimated 25,000 Armenians in 1988. U.S. veterans looking for disability payments from the Department of Veteran Affairs may find the results interesting.

SSA needs to cut away at backlog

Many people with disability qualifying conditions could have benefits paid out by the Social Security Administration save their lives, or at the very least help keep them and their families afloat, but the SSA needs something to help cut away at the 1.8 million people in the backlog of cases.

People with fibromyalgia can qualify for SSA disability payments

Although many people with fibromyalgia, a disease which causes a person to have long-term, body-wide pain and tenderness in muscles, joints, tendons and other soft tissues of the body, can still continue to work part or full time, many are not physically able to for weeks, months or even years. People with fibromyalgia have disability qualifying conditions, meaning benefits from the Social Security Administration can be had.

Veterans should make sure representative for benefits is accredited

When applying for benefits from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, veterans should make sure the person they are getting help from is accredited to help represent their claim. A column by the Gannett Company said veterans said people who are not accredited can help once and only once, but it may not be a great idea.
