Other Diseases

Many diseases such as chronic liver disease, sickle cell disease (also known as sickle cell anemia), and Hepatitis C are recognized by the Social Security Administration (SSA) as qualifying conditions for receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.

The Social Security Administration evaluates each case individually to determine whether or not the effects of the disease or the treatment would preclude you from doing any kind of work for a period of at least twelve months. We’ve listed a few of the qualifying conditions on our website, but the circumstances of each case are unique.
